I've been meaning to do something like this for a while.

I take a lot of photographs, meet a lot of people and spend a fair bit of time putting books and zines together. Along the way, there are always stories, ideas and bits of work that don't really have anywhere to go.

Instagram is great for sharing photographs, but sometimes there's a bit more to the story than what I can fit into a caption.

So I've started THE JOURNAL.

Nothing too complicated. Just somewhere on my own website to share things that I think are worth sharing.

THE STUFF YOU
DON'T ALWAYS SEE.

Most people only get to see the finished photograph or the printed book.

They don't see the conversations that happened beforehand, the photographs that didn't make the cut, or the amount of trial and error that goes into getting something printed.

With projects like CARDIFF SEEN, THIS IS SKINHEAD and PUBLIC NUISANCE., there's always been more going on behind the scenes than what ends up in the finished publication.

Some of it works out. Some of it doesn't. Sometimes an idea changes completely along the way.

I'd like to share more of that side of things.

I'll be writing about street photography, the people I've met, projects I'm working on and anything else that happens to interest me.

There'll probably be photographs I've never shared before, a few stories from the streets of Cardiff and the occasional update on what I'm making.

I don't want to overthink it.

NOT JUST ME.

I don't want THE JOURNAL. to be somewhere I only talk about my own work.

One of the things I've enjoyed most about making PUBLIC NUISANCE. is getting other people involved and seeing what they bring to it.

I'd like to do something similar here.

If you're a photographer, writer, artist or just someone with an interesting story to tell, I'd love to hear from you.

You don't need to have a big following or loads of experience. If you've got something worth sharing, that's what matters to me.

I'm hoping to feature guest articles, personal stories, photography projects and different perspectives from people doing their own thing.

It doesn't all have to be about photography either.

NO BIG PLAN.

I'm not going to promise a new article every week.

Some weeks I'll have plenty to write about. Other times there might not be much happening.

I'd rather publish something when I've actually got something to say than put things out just for the sake of it.

Over time, I'd like THE JOURNAL. to become a collection of photographs, stories, ideas and contributions from different people.

Something you can dip into whenever you fancy a read.

That's pretty much it.
