ABOUT TOM WILKINS.
Tom Wilkins is a documentary photographer based in Cardiff, Wales, whose work explores identity, subculture, community and contemporary social life.
His practice is rooted in long-form, observational photography, with an emphasis on building trust, spending time with subjects and allowing stories to develop beyond a single image.
His first photobook, This Is Skinhead, was developed over more than a year and documents contemporary skinhead culture through Wilkins' own photography, participant archive material and first-person accounts. Independently published in 2026, the book has gone through multiple print runs and is stocked by independent retailers in the UK and internationally. The project has also attracted press coverage and recognition from established photographers working within documentary and subcultural photography.
Alongside his photographic practice, Wilkins is in the final year of a degree in Psychology and Criminology. His academic interests inform his approach to documentary work, particularly around identity, behaviour, social groups, institutions and public order.
He continues to develop long-term personal projects while undertaking brand, editorial and documentary commissions for organisations, publications and independent businesses.
Based in Cardiff, he works across Wales, the UK and internationally.
